Descriptionn chip design, Engineering Change Order (ECO) is the process of inserting a logic change directly into the netlist after it has already been processed by an automatic EDA tool. ECOs are usually done
before the chip masks are made. However, to take care of some bugs found late in the
design, sometimes, the ECOs need to be done after the masks have already been
made. This post-mask ECO saves a lot of time and cost than it would have been if the
design was rebuild from scratch.
We have developed “Automated metal only Functional ECO flow using programmable/gate-array cells and Automated consumption of Metal only ECO logics in Implementation flow” which have significantly aided in faster functional ECO convergence thus saving 2-3 weeks of efforts if the ECO was done manually.Repurposing of freed cells along with limiting the changes only till M7 metal layers have helped in considerable $$ savings.
