DescriptionIn Intel, projects are usually inherited from previous designs with additional functionality and floorplan changes. A project cycle involves multiple iterations of hierarchical structure changes, feedback from back-end implementation team to front-end design team, until final design freeze. Intel has developed an internal design restructuring flow which optimize turnaround time in each iteration, resulting in faster design freeze. Nowadays, with growing significance of power efficiency, most projects also incorporates low power design intents described with Unified Power Format (UPF). Therefore, it is critical for the restructuring flow to be power-aware to ensure consistency and optimization in overall design cycle. This paper describes how Intel UPF restructuring flow, enabled by power promotion and demotion features, leads to a complete power-aware logic restructuring solution.
