DescriptionIP piracy and tampering could be prevented with logic obfuscation, which is vulnerable to several deobfuscation attacks. We propose "O’Clock", a novel approach to "lock the clock" via clock-gating to protect SoC IPs. By obfuscating clock-gating circuitry, the activity factor of the clock tree would be manipulated, obstructing data flows and making the logic dysfunctional for incorrect keys. O’Clock has minimal changes to the original design incurring negligible power, performance, and area overhead. Also, O’Clock does not change the existing industrial design and EDA tool flow. Furthermore, our experimental results show the resiliency of O’Clock against the existing deobfuscation attacks.
