Enabling Versatile Power Management for AIoT Devices

DescriptionModern artificial intelligence of things (AIoT) poses new challenges to power management systems due to 1) unexpected power surges caused by computational inference tasks and 2) frequent power regulations when exploiting the characteristics of inference tasks to utilize intermittent power. In this paper, we propose VPM, a Versatile Power Management scheme for AIoT devices. The core of VPM is a reconfigurable voltage regulation module that allows for adaptively approaching the limit of a highly variable power budget. Our results show that VPM enables AIoT devices to accomplish 65.55% more inference tasks under a stringent power budget without any performance degradation compared with other existing approaches.
