DescriptionThis paper investigates the scheduling of three-stage jobs using network and computing resources, which is motivated by applications from wireless networked control systems. The first and the third stages are processed by the network resource while the second stage should be executed on the computing machine where dynamic voltage scaling (DVS) is adopted. The objective is to minimize the makespan given an energy budget. The problem is first shown to be NP-hard, subsequently a dynamic programming algorithm is proposed to solve the problem in polynomial time when the number of types of jobs is constant.
