DescriptionSoft errors might bring severe impairment to the host system using flash-based storage. If soft errors occur in the storage, the host could experience data corruption, a drive freeze, or a failure. Because soft errors affect a storage flash translation layer (FTL), it should protect the most safety-critical mappings for the correct transmissions. To harden the storage FTL, we propose a novel page-mapping consistency checker (PCK). PCK does page-mapping functions again by exploiting its page tracing table. After PCK verification, the FTL detects and recovers the page mapping damage. Consequently, the storage keeps the page-mapping consistency and improves its reliability.
